#NUPS2: The revival of AA publishing

Recent years we've noticed an abundance of games published in that murky space between indie and AAA. The kinda game where you play it and you're like "yea these guys had a few mil and maybe some corpo help". Yet the game retains a creative freedom or entertains a strange concept no AAA publisher would indulge. Perhaps it is practically easier to achieve a balance between a) the exigencies of capital, the drive to utterly commoditize and b) the good of the work with less money on the line. The publisher is under less obligation to cannibalize its children. Exemplary AA titles of recent years: Remnant FTA, Maneater, the Surge 2, Greedfall or Deadly Premonition 2.

These games recall the ps2 era. Of Jaws Unleashed, Ghost Hunter, Drakkan, Champions of Norrath, Rogue Trooper, Shadowman. With Werewolf tAEB coming next month, we feel compelled to ask: are we amidst a new golden age of AA publishing?

A golden age of "nu-ps2" games?
